About the instructor

Zoltán Micskei is an associate professor at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and holds a PhD degree in software engineering. He has more than 15 years’ experience in research and teaching. He frequently participates in international research projects, and gives talks at professional events. His main research area is software testing, specializing in model- and code-based test generation. His goal is to produce advanced, but practical testing tools and languages.

General Description

The ISTQB Foundation Level Certified Model-Based Tester course is a specialist module at the Foundation Level. The ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) certification is a required prerequisite for the ISTQB Foundation Level Certified Model-Based Tester (CTFL-MBT) exam. A person with the CTFL-MBT Certificate has extended the broad understanding of testing acquired at the Foundation Level to enable capabilities required for the Model-Based Testing (MBT) process, methodology and techniques.

Learning Objectives

Through presentation, discussion, hands-on exercises, and post-exercise solution defense, attendees will learn to:

  • Collaborate in a model-based testing team using standard terminology and established MBT concepts, processes and techniques.
  • Apply and integrate model-based testing in a test process.
  • Effectively create and maintain MBT models using established techniques and best practices of model-based testing.
  • Select, create and maintain test artifacts from MBT models considering risk and value of the features tested.
  • Support the organization to improve its quality assurance process to be more constructive and efficient.
  • In general, an ISTQB® Certified Model-Based Tester has acquired the necessary skills to successfully contribute to MBT projects in a given context.

Session Plan

The course runs for two days, with attendees encouraged to take the ISTQB Model-Based Tester exam after completing the course and after further study. Each day is about 360 minutes of class time.

Timing is approximate, depending on attendee interest, discussion, and interaction about the exercises. Each day consists of a mixture of lecture, discussion, exercises, and presentation/discussion of exercise solutions to the group.
